Senior physics students Raha Ghassemi and Cory Leahy are spending the second half of their Spring 2014 semester with Prof. David McGee at the University of Applied Sciences (Beuth Hochschule für Technik) in Berlin, Germany. They are taking classes in Medical Imaging and Applied Holography. The Medical Imaging class involves studies in X-ray, MRI, and ultrasonic techniques, and is taught in German. While the TCNJ students do not speak German, they are being assisted by their German lab partners who translate during the experiments and who in turn, get to practice conversational English with the TCNJ students. The Applied Holography course is taught by Prof. David McGee and involves studies of holographic imaging materials including polymeric films and crystalline photorefractive materials. Both professor and expert in holography Dr. Juergen Eichler will guest lecture at the end of the course, and will show students how to fabricate, expose, and process their own reflection-type holographic films.
