Dr. Beth Cunningham, Head of the Americans Association of Physics Teachers, to Speak on March 20th

Dr. Cunningham, AAPT Executive Officer will talk about  “Building Better (and More) Physics Educators” on Thursday March 20th at 11:30 AM in SCP-117. The abstract of her presentation is:

The American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) has as its mission to enhance the understanding and appreciation of physics through teaching. One of the primary activities of AAPT is supporting the development of highly qualified high school physics teachers. The United States has a severe, long-term shortage of qualified physics teachers. School districts consistently rank physics as the highest need area among all academic disciplines with regard to teacher shortages. AAPT’s activities to increase the number of high school physics teachers, improve physics teaching at the high school level, and encourage higher education to make this a priority will be discussed.
